Brussels, 17/02/2014 (Agence Europe) - Greek Finance Minister Yiannis Stournaras for the Greek Presidency of the Council of the EU and EU Taxation Commissioner Algirdas Semeta signed an agreement on Monday 17 February on behalf of the EU with French Economy and Finance Minister Pierre Moscovici to ensure that the EU savings tax and administrative cooperation on tax matters directives will, when revised, continue to apply in St-Barthélémy (French Antilles), which became an overseas territory in July 2007 (it used to be part of the Guadeloupe region of France). It left the European Union on 1 January 2012, now being simply associated with the EU like other former overseas countries and territories (OCT), no longer being an outermost region (OM). The EU wants to ensure that when they are revised, the two directives will apply automatic exchange of bank information (AEI) between the EU and the island so that it does not turn into a haven for tax fraudsters.
