Brussels, 13/02/2014 (Agence Europe) - Although the prime ministers of Serbia and Kosovo, Ivica Dacic and Hashim Thaçi respectively, left their 22nd meeting without an agreement on the judiciary on 12 February, an agreement could be made in the coming days. “We had an in-depth discussion on all the final issues related to the question of justice (…). All the relevant elements are now being put together as a package which the two prime ministers will finalise at their next meeting”, said High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton in a press release.
“We discussed the implementation of a unified judicial system in the whole of Kosovo”, said Thaçi. “We brought our positions closer together, and made substantial progress for an agreement”, he said, adding that “all the agreements concerned will be in full conformity with the constitution and laws of Kosovo”. “I hope that we will have an agreement in the coming days”, he stated. According to Dacic, the next meeting could take place “in the next 7-10 days”. In the meantime, the experts' groups will meet to finalise the text.
During their meeting Dacic and Thaçi also discussed the situation in Bosnia. Dacic called on the EU to clarify what has happened regarding Oliver Ivanovic, the leader of the civil initiative Freedom, Democracy and Justice, who was arrested for war crimes by the office of European prosecutors on 27 January (see EUROPE 11006).
