Slight decline for film industry in 2013

Brussels, 07/02/2014 (Agence Europe) - On February, the International Union of Cinemas (UNIC) published a report revealing cinema industry statistics in 29 European countries in 2012-2013. The year 2013 saw a slight drop in revenue and total number of admissions compared to 2012 (-3% and -2.2% respectively). The large French, British and German markets in particular fell slightly after a particularly good 2012. Whilst the countries of southern Europe have experienced considerable decline over the last few years due to the economic crisis, Italy started to get its head out of the water in 2013, with an increase in revenue and admissions compared to 2012 (+1.5% of additional revenue and +6.7% in admissions). Spain, on the other hand, continues to suffer from the crisis with a decline in revenue of -16.3% and admission figures which are down by -15.4%.
