Brussels, 17/01/2014 (Agence Europe) - The European Fisheries Control Agency has a key role to play in coordinating the implementation of the landing obligation for all species (putting an end to discards). This was what resulted from a seminar organised in Dubrovnik (Croatia) on 15 and 16 January, devoted to the control aspects of the implementation of the discard ban introduced as part of the reformed common fisheries policy (CFP).
The Fisheries Control Agency “will assist member states and the European Commission to develop simple and cost-effective methods for monitoring and ensuring compliance with the landing obligation”. Those taking part at the seminar underlined how important it was to involve fishermen and scientists in implementing these new rules. (LC/transl.jl)
