Brussels, 16/01/2014 (Agence Europe) - On 16 January, Maja Kocijancic, the spokesperson for High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton, announced that the EU-Russia summit on Tuesday 28 January would have a format that is a little different from that of previous summits. “Our leaders and Russia's President Vladimir Putin have agreed for the summit to focus on a reflection on the nature and direction of our strategic partnership”, Kocijancic stated. She said that the talks will focus on the issues of common interest and also on the differences. The leaders are expected to discuss regional economic integration initiatives and the neighbourhood. The EU and Russia are currently at loggerheads over Ukraine, and also over trade policy, commitments under the WTO, international commitments and the main challenges in foreign affairs. (CG/transl.fl)
