Brussels, 15/01/2014 (Agence Europe) - During the evening of Tuesday 14 January, the spokesperson for High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton announced that Ashton will meet the prime ministers of Serbia and Kosovo, Ivica Dacic and Hashim Thaçi respectively, in Brussels on Monday 27 January. “The meeting comes after the successful inaugurations of three northern municipalities out of four”¸ the spokesperson stated. The spokesperson also said that the meeting will provide the opportunity to continue work on this issue and other aspects of the implementation of the April agreement, as well as to discuss future steps related to the normalisation of relations.
Dacic stated that the discussions should focus, inter alia, on the judicial apparatus and citizens' assets. In his opinion, Belgrade's goal is to continue the talks on the issues already open, to analyse the current situation and to determine the next steps. Dacic also said that it is very important for the citizens from Kosovo-Metohija to have the community of Serbian municipalities in Kosovo-Methohija established and for its status to be adopted as soon as possible.
Before the meeting, Serbia will officially open its accession negotiations with the EU, with its first intergovernmental conference on 21 January. (CG/transl.fl)
