Brussels, 15/01/2014 (Agence Europe) - A public consultation is currently taking place on a new macro-regional strategy for the Adriatic-Ionian basin. This consultation is open until 17 January and all stakeholders, e.g. private individuals, public organisations, enterprises, NGOs and representatives from civil society, are invited to participate. The European Commission wishes to assess the benefits of developing such a strategy and the practical responses it could provide to problems faced by those living in this maritime region. The new Adriatic-Ionian macro-regional strategy will cover four EU member states (Croatia, Greece, Italy and Slovenia) and four non-EU countries: Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro and Serbia. It will focus on driving innovative maritime and marine growth, connecting the region, environmental protection and increasing regional attractiveness.
The Greek Presidency will draw from the responses obtained during the public consultation to develop a conference on the subject on 6-7 February next and continue with strategy preparations. (MD/transl.fl)
