13/01/2014 (Agence Europe) - Dijsselbloem confident of strength of European banks. “The banks are now already, in advance, dealing with their problems: taking losses where necessary, finding new funding, strengthening their balance sheets,” said the head of Eurogroup, Jeroen Dijsselbloem, on Bloomberg Television in Hong Kong on Monday 13 January. He added: “They're not waiting for the actions of the ECB (European Central Bank). Banks are going ahead and getting their act together, which will help strengthen the economic recovery in the eurozone.” In the autumn, the ECB will release the results of its assessment of the assets of the 130 biggest banks in the eurozone, which it will be directly supervising from November. In parallel, the European Banking Authority is running bank stress tests. (MB/transl.fl)
