08/01/2014 (Agence Europe) - Venizelos says new narrative on Europe is needed. On Wednesday 8 January, Greece's Minister for Foreign Affairs Evangelos Venizelos called for a “renewed narrative on Europe” when there are just five months until the European elections and the EU is experiencing a wave of euroscepticism and a gain in popularity of extremist parties. “The EU needs an interesting, attractive and renewed narrative”, he said. “Europe as a continent is getting smaller in the international economy. We must speak again about civilisation, pluralism, tolerance, look again at the European social model, and overcome the economic and budgetary crisis”, he said (our translation throughout). He also stressed that one of the top priorities of the European Council and the European political parties must be the control of parties that take extreme positions, such as those who are said to be neo-nazi.
