Brussels, 20/12/2013 (Agence Europe) - While global trade should record a slight rise in 2013 and in 2014 (+2.5% and +4.5%) - a rise below the historical trend - the WTO notes a fresh rise in trade restrictions in G20 countries this year.
During the six months from May to November this year, most G20 member countries (the world's main global economies) set up a total of 116 new restrictive measures - compared with 109 measures the previous six months. These new measures affect nearly 1.1% of the G20 countries' trade imports - in other words, nearly 0.9% of the total imports in the world, according to the joint WTO, OECD and UNCTAD report published on 18 December.
