Brussels, 12/12/2013 (Agence Europe) - On 12 December, the European Commission announced €87 million for Moldova, Georgia and Armenia, as part of the Eastern Partnership integration and cooperation (EaPic) programme. The three countries were being “rewarded for their efforts in democratic transition and their commitment to fundamental values”.
For Moldova, an allocation of €35 million will contribute to boosting economic opportunities in rural areas, advancing reforms in the energy sector, and increasing cooperation with the Council of Europe. The €27 million for Georgia is aimed at improving job market management and the offer of vocational education and training. Meanwhile, the €25 million for Armenia will help to enhance national capacities for migration and mobility management, and support civil service reform and the fight against corruption. Direct support to Armenian civil society has also been increased.
Launched in 2012, the EaPic programme provides additional financial assistance to Eastern Partnership countries that deliver on reforms for deep democracy and respect of human rights. For 2012-2013, EaPIC was provided with €152 million. (CG/transl.fl)
