18/10/2013 (Agence Europe) - Anastasiades still trying to remove head of Cypriot central bank. Despite warnings from the troika (the European Commission, the European Central Bank and the International Monetary Fund) on independence of central banks in the Eurosystem, the president of Cyprus, Nicos Anastasiades, still wants to force the current head of the country's central bank, Panicos Demetriades, out of office for reasons of incompetence. Reuters reports that Anastasiades said on Thursday 17 October: “I fully respect the constitution of our country and Eurosystem rules ... consequently there is no other route but for the legal services of the Republic to process the information and for the relevant recourse to the Supreme Court.
