Study on fight against natural disasters

Brussels, 11/10/2013 (Agence Europe) - The EU has launched a study in support to Algeria in its defence against natural disasters. The conclusions of the study are expected around the middle of 2015. The study, which will begin at the end of October, will be financed for up to €1.2 million. According to the presentation made in Brussels, an audit will be carried out beforehand establishing what Algeria has learned from the experience it has been through “of devastating floods” over the course of the last 12 years - floods which have “particularly affected the large cities and urban centres, where there has been countless loss of life and considerable material damage”. Training will be given so as to enable the local staff to master the tools for calculation and for specific mapping to define the flood-prone areas and the risks of flood according to the stakes.
