Brussels, 11/10/2013 (Agence Europe) - Still no common ground exists in the European Parliament fisheries committee with regard to compromise amendments to the report by Kriton Arsenis (S&D, Greece) advocating the two-year phased ending of the use of bottom trawls in the North Atlantic.
The committee had planned to hold its vote on this report on 17 October but further meetings of the various groups' shadow rapporteurs will be needed to try to find some way of coming to a compromise. The aim is now to be able to put the matter to the vote in committee on 4 November. Discussions have been stormy (see EUROPE 10925). Some MEPs are threatening to vote against the report, with the risk of having it rejected in plenary session. (LC/transl.fl)
