Brussels, 04/10/2013 (Agence Europe) - According to the association of European producers of biodiesel (European Biodiesel Board - EBB), the European Commission will soon adopt definitive anti-dumping duties against imports of biodiesel from Argentina and Indonesia, at rates that are clearly very high in comparison with the provisional duties established in May. The definitive duties would reportedly be €215-250 per tonne for biodiesel from Argentina, and €120-180 per tonne for biodiesel from Indonesia. The provisional duties that have been applied since May can reach €105 and €84 respectively.
Argentina and Indonesia have set up an export tax system that favours their biodiesel by applying a higher export tax for raw materials - soya for Argentina and palm oil for Indonesia - than for processed products (biodiesel) based on these raw materials.
Biodiesel from Argentina and Indonesia are both the target of an anti-subsidy investigation. Definitive anti-dumping and anti-subsidy duties will be decided on 29 November and 10 December respectively.
From 2010 until 2012, the Argentine and Indonesian share of the European biodiesel market increased from 0% to around 30% - with biodiesel from Argentina and Indonesia representing nearly 90% of total biodiesel imports into the EU. (EH/transl.fl)
