Samsung is uncontested global leader in mobile telephony. According to the most recent statistics from Gartner on the mobile phone market, the South Korean group, Samsung, was still the uncontested global leader in smart phones in the second quarter of 2013, with a 31.7% of market share, far ahead of Apple (14.2%). Samsung's other competitors lagged much further behind: LG Electronics (5.1%), Lenovo (4.7%), ZTE and Sony Mobile Communication (4.3% each). Samsung is also number one in the world when it comes to traditional mobile phones. If both smart phones and traditional mobile phones are taken together, Samsung sold 107 million units, ahead of Nokia, in second place and Apple in third. Another report published by Gartner indicates that global exports of PCs, tablets and mobile phones are expected to increase by +5.9%, to 2.35 billion units for 2013 as a whole. Nonetheless, growth is uneven and it is mainly exports in tablets that are experiencing a surge in growth, up 67%, as opposed to a rise of 4.3% for phone exports. Exports of PCs have fallen by 10.6%. Apple's market share for all its products across the board will increase to +14% in 2014, as opposed to +10% in 2012. In 2014, global exports of PCs, tablets and mobile phones are expected to increase slightly by +6%, to 2.50 billion units. (IL/transl.fl)
