Headway in budgetary situation

Brussels, 10/09/2013 (Agence Europe) - During the first eight months of 2013, Greece notched up a slight primary budget surplus of €2.9 billion, it was revealed in preliminary data published by the Greek Ministry of Finance on Tuesday 10 September. An EU source said that Greece was well and truly on track for attaining its budgetary objectives this year. This situation will allow it to trigger one of the terms of the agreement with the eurozone relating to lightening the debt burden. To achieve this, Athens must also respect to the letter the conditions and objectives of the programme. Things are not moving quite so fast on the privatisations side. The Commission could be open to review of certain of the objectives set in this field. In a press release, the Greek Ministry of Finance also said that the Belgian and Portuguese central banks had agreed to exchange the Greek debt securities that they held against new papers with higher maturity (“roll over”).
