23/08/2013 (Agence Europe) - EIB involved in a renewable energy development programme. On Thursday 22 August, the European Investment Bank (EIB) agreed to provide up to US$230 million investment in renewable energy schemes (hydropower, wind, geothermal and photovoltaic) across Central America. The joint programme with the Central American Bank for Economic Integration will enable more than US$500 million of investment in projects in Honduras, Nicaragua, El Salvador, Guatemala, Costa Rica and Panama. The objectives are to reduce the region's dependence on fossil fuel imports and to reduce the energy sector's carbon emissions. (OL/transl.fl)
