Dijsselbloem says third Greek bailout “will have to happen”

Brussels, 23/08/2013 (Agence Europe) - In an interview on Thursday 22 August with Dutch financial newspaper Het Financieele Dagblad, Jeroen Dijsselbloem, who is the chair of Eurogroup and Dutch Finance Minister, said: “The problems in Greece won't be solved in 2014, so something more will have to happen.

His comments came after German finance minister Wolfgang Schäuble and, to a lesser extent, Euro Commissioner Olli Rehn, talked about the option of continuing to provide aid to Greece after the end of the second bailout programme (see EUROPE 10904), but Europe will not look at the question in detail until the spring of next year, under the Greek Presidency, when the Greek budget figures for 2013 are known. The next assessment mission of the troika (the European Commission, the European Central Bank and the IMF) to Greece will take place in October. (MB/transl.fl)
