IATA says air passenger transport doing better

Brussels, 01/08/2013 (Agence Europe) - On 31 July, The International Air Transport Association (IATA) announced that, like air freight (see EUROPE 10900), growth in air passenger transport demand has also been healthy.

June passenger demand figures show year-on-year growth of 6.0% and European carriers are enjoying the lion's share of this growth, with a 4.7% rate of growth compared to June last year. The director general of IATA, Tony Tyler, said that European airlines' performances were another highlight in the figures for June. He noted that a second consecutive month of robust growth reflects the fact that the recession is abating in the euro zone and that this “is giving a boost to business and consumer confidence”.
