EXTERNAL ACTION / (ae) bosnia and herzegovina

22/07/2013 (Agence Europe) - Fresh call for Sejdic-Finci ruling to be implemented. The Foreign Affairs Council of the EU, concerned by the “continued lack of progress” of Bosnia and Herzegovina on the path towards the European Union, called on the political leaders of the country to agree “as a matter of urgency”, after three years of deadlock, on the implementation of the Sejdic-Finci ruling of the European Court of Human Rights. This ruling obliges the country to change its constitution so that nobody can be prevented from standing for a political position on the grounds of his or her national or ethnic origin. “Full implementation of the Sejdic-Finci ruling is a key element for a credible membership application to be considered by the EU”, the ministers stressed in conclusions adopted on Monday 22 July.
