Brussels, 19/07/2013 (Agence Europe) - The management committee of the EU recently voted in favour of the proposal by the European Commission to include the generic promotion of ovine meat in the list of initiatives covered by the Community regulation of 2008 on information on and promotion of agricultural products on the internal market and in third countries.
This regulation, which has been called for by the professional organisations since 2009, is set to enter into force at the end of July. This means that the programmes could be applied from the autumn. Up to now, only the promotion of fresh, refrigerated and frozen sheep meat subject to a quality regime (PDO, PGI) has been eligible for Community funding. (LC/transl.fl)
