19/07/2013 (Agence Europe) - €400 million for 287 early-career scientists. On Friday 19 July, the European Research Council (ERC) selected 287 early-career scientists. They stand to receive subsidies of up to €2 million for their research project, over a period of five years. With 3,329 project proposals, the number of applications for these subsidies was up 50% on the previous competition. The number of successful female researchers also increased, from 24% to 30%. The projects chosen cover topics such as “designing a unique coastal defence against tsunamis, investigating real-time monitoring of air pollution by means of GPS technology, or producing new photovoltaics”, a Commission press release states.
