London top for €1,000,000 plus remuneration packages

Brussels, 16/07/2013 (Agence Europe) - On Monday 15 July, the European Banking Authority (EBA) published a report on the pay packages (salaries, bonuses, long-term perks and pensions contributions) of over €1 million received by bankers in the EU between 2010 and 2011.

The data aggregated by the EBA from figures collected at member state level under EU Directive 2010/76/EC on bank capital requirements show that the highest pay packages were in the United Kingdom (where 2,436 earned more than €1 million), followed by Germany (170 people), 162 in France, 125 in Spain, 96 in Italy and 36 in the Netherlands.

These high earners work throughout the whole institution, from the executive board, to risk management, internal audit, information technology, communication, auditing, corporate finance, legal and human resources.

At the end of this year, the EBA will publish a more detailed report on pay practices in the member state based on a bench-marking exercise. (MB/transl.fl)
