Ashton wants war crimes processing continued

Brussels, 11/07/2013 (Agence Europe) - Paying tribute to the victims of the 1995 Srebrenica genocide, High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton called for the continued processing of war crimes. “The processing of the war crimes committed throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina shall continue to ensure that the truth is established, justice is guaranteed, and reconciliation can be consolidated, including at the regional level”, she said in a press release.

In Ashton's view, the long reconciliation process that led to the creation of the European Union should inspire reconciliation in the Western Balkans. “Large steps have been made in that direction but there is still much to be done, especially by those in positions of authority, so that citizens of the region can fully enjoy peace and prosperity, together with their fellow Europeans”, she said.
