11/07/2013 (Agence Europe) - Facilitating car re-registration in other EU member states. Making it easier to register a car in another EU member state could save €1.5 billion a year. On 9 July, MEPs from the internal market committee amended a draft law to set a 3-month deadline for re-registering a car in a new country and require EU member states to recognise each others' roadworthiness tests. Rapporteur Toine Manders (ALDE, Netherlands) said: “The new regulation will enable them to re-register their vehicles with less administration and lower costs”. Three years after the entry into force of these provisions, member states should have a common online re-registration system (secure online database). (LC/transl.fl)
