Brussels, 08/07/2013 (Agence Europe) - At a conference in Marrakesh, the EU reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the reform of the health care and basic medical cover sector in Morocco. This conference, which was held in Marrakesh from 1 to 3 July on the subject “For a new governance of the healthcare sector”, revealed, according to the official data, that the reform undertaken with EU support has so far helped to cut child and maternal mortality figures by more than 50% and considerably improve the prevention and treatment of various non-transmissible diseases. The extension of medical cover has risen from 16% in 2005 to 44% in 2012. The EU is acting upstream by providing financial and technical support to studies and expert assessments to set in place reference documents on the subjects dealt with at the conference in Marrakesh.
