04/07/2013 (Agence Europe) - Freedom of expression is threatened. MEPs of the Greens/EFA Group, Yannick Jadot, Karima Delli and Nicole Kiil-Nielsen, held a conference in Strasbourg on Tuesday on the sidelines of the European parliament session. The aim of the conference was to denounce attacks on the right of free expression in Tunisia. After the sentence on the Femen, rapper “Weld-el-15” was sentenced to two years in prison - a penalty reduced on Tuesday to two months imprisonment with a suspended sentence. The news reached MEPs just as they were to address the press. They expressed their satisfaction but plan to remain vigilant and to closely follow the Tunisian Femen case that is still before the courts. Human Rights Watch (HRW), for its part, undertook to carry out a campaign on the same theme and referred the matter to the French president who was visiting Tunis on Wednesday. (FB/transl.jl)
