Brussels, 06/06/2013 (Agence Europe) - The committee of the permanent representatives of the member states of the EU (Coreper) is deferring for one week its agreement on the new guidelines of the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T).
Further to an agreement in institutional trialogue on TEN-T maps, on 30 May (see EUROPE 10856), it was expected that Coreper would give its endorsement this week before a last formal go-ahead from the Council. However, the European ambassadors did not even tackle the matter during their meeting on Wednesday 5 June following a request for clarification made by one of the delegations about arrangements relating to transport corridors. The Irish Presidency of the Council of Ministers is reported to be working on this in order to ensure support from this delegation during the next Coreper meeting, next Wednesday. The text is expected to change very little and it is very possible that the situation will be settled by then.
Sources familiar with the dossier say this last-minute blocking by the delegation in question was a means of exerting pressure on the negotiations in institutional trialogue on the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF), which are coming to an end. (MD/transl.jl)
