Brussels, 05/06/2013 (Agence Europe) - Several hundred European milk producers expressed their anger before the German Chancellor, in Berlin on Tuesday 4 June 2013.
Answering a call from the European Milk Board, which brings together 19 associations from 14 countries, demonstrators criticised the inflexibility of the government of Angela Merkel on the voluntary production reduction mechanism, which is supported by the European Parliament. The demonstrators came from Germany, France, Belgium, the Netherlands and Poland. The producers are calling for quotas to be kept in place, with a guaranteed price of €0.5 per litre, compared to between 25 and 35 euro cents currently. To the great regret of the organisers, no representatives of the German government came to listen to their arguments. (LC/transl.fl)
