Television channels for children - growth continues

Brussels, 03/06/2013 (Agence Europe) - On 3 June, the European Audiovisual Observatory published its latest figures on television for children in Europe. It reveals that more than 280 children's television channels are now established within the European Union and around 320 in wider Europe. Just 21 are part of the public service broadcasting system, whilst nearly 300 are private. Most of the growth was seen between 2006 and 201,0 with the development of the Disney, Cartoon Network, Nickelodeon and Boomerang brands throughout Europe. More than 80 channels concentrate on the national markets, but some of them are very widely distributed in Europe. The main pan-European brands are Disney (63 channels), Nickelodeon (44), Cartoon Network (29) and Boomerang (21). They include several channels and a large number of language variations across Europe. (IL/transl.fl)
