Ashton welcomes adoption of implementation plan

Brussels, 27/05/2013 (Agence Europe) - On 27 May, High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton welcomed the decision of Serbia and Kosovo to adopt the implementation plan “which translates into practice” the provisions of the April agreement on the normalisation of relations between Belgrade and Pristina (see EUROPE 10831). “The implementation plan is designed to solve problems on the ground and to ensure rapid progress of both Serbia and Kosovo towards the European Union”, Ashton underlined, saying that it “represents a further step forward in the EU-facilitated dialogue” and it is without prejudice to the positions of the two sides on the Kosovo status.

Ashton once again hailed the two prime ministers, Ivica Dacic and Hashim Thaçi, “for their leadership and determination”, recalling that “their personal engagement will continue to be essential in view of a swift implementation of the plan”.

The prime ministers met with Ashton in Brussels on 22-23 May in order to reach an agreement on the implementation plan and they then had to consult with their countries (see EUROPE 10851). (CG/transl.fl)
