Brussels, 21/05/2013 (Agence Europe) - On 17 May, the “Sports Council” adopted conclusions on the dual career of athletes. These contain guidelines that aim to create or improve conditions for successfully combining a sporting career, education and work by putting in place specific structures for talented and top athletes throughout Europe. Commissioner Androulla Vassiliou said: “I hope that these conclusions will lead to national initiatives for these dual careers”. Although there exist a substantial number of structures and regulation in several member states for professional sportsmen and women, these initiatives are often fragmented and only concentrate on certain aspects, pointed out the Council.
