Brussels, 06/05/2013 (Agence Europe) - Over 170 short and feature-length films produced in the southern Mediterranean region (Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Morocco, Palestine, Syria and Tunisia) will be presented at the Cannes Festival in the EuroMed audiovisual programme, backed by the EU. A catalogue will be officially available during this major film event, to be held from 15 to 26 May.
According to those who initiated this operation, the aim is to create a first collective approach addressed to the market, presenting all creative works currently produced in the southern region of the Mediterranean as it traverses a major chapter in its contemporary history.
With a budget of €11 million over three years (2011-2013), the EuroMed audiovisual programme is in its third phase of implementation. It finances projects whose aim it is to develop the cinematographic and audiovisual sector in the ten southern Mediterranean countries. The programme has also funded two studies, one on support for production and the other on distribution networks. (FB/transl.jl)
