PACE calls for permanent body for ethical reflection

Strasbourg, 30/04/2013 (Agence Europe) - The growing complexity of science and technology requires a permanent body to be set in place for ethical reflection at world level, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) has said. Based on the report by Jan Kazmierczak of Poland (EPP, Centre-Right), the text adopted proposes that such a body treat ethical issues more as a “moving target” rather than fix an “ethical code”. It would thus be able to carry out periodic re-questioning of even basic assumptions in order to maintain full relevance. The Council of Europe could and should contribute to the work of the United Nations carried out in order to create a world committee in this field. (VL/transl.jl)
