CoMoCoSEE - culture and education cement social cohesion

Brussels, 10/04/2013 (Agence Europe) - At the annual meeting of the Council of Ministers of Culture of South-East Europe (CoMoCoSEE), Commissioner Androulla Vassiliou, responsible for education, culture, youth and multilingualism, welcomed the fact that this forum has become a key player in promoting innovative models of cooperation in the region, in the field of culture. The Commissioner took part in this event on 8 and 9 April in Brdo (see EUROPE 10822).

Stressing the importance of the discussion topics selected (synergy between culture and the education system on the one hand, cooperation between the countries of the region in cultural heritage matters on the other), she referred to the Ljubljana process, which is supported by the European Commission, as an example of good practice. The aim of this process is to preserve the cultural heritage of the region. In the final declaration published after the meeting, the partner culture ministers recommend the adoption of national strategies and action plans to support education in the sector of culture and the arts. Aside from the positive impact on the personal development of individuals, culture and education are a powerful cement for social cohesion and inclusion, they stressed. (IL/transl.fl)
