Brussels, 20/03/2013 (Agence Europe) - On 19 March, Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighbourhood Policy Stefan Füle said during a visit to Kosovo that the coming days and weeks will be crucial for EU-Kosovo relations, and he highlighted relations with Serbia. “A possible deal with Belgrade tomorrow (20 March) and its implementation on the ground should pave the way for positive June Council conclusions about the negotiations on a stabilisation and association agreement (SAA)”, he said.
Füle also underlined Pristina's “good progress” on the short-term priorities from the feasibility study on the SAA, and he said Kosovo had progressed both in the dialogue with Serbia and in the technical preparations for an SSA. In Füle's view, efforts are needed when it comes to the rule of law, the fight against crime and corruption, electoral reform and economic development.
“Continuing reforms and improving relations are two sides of the same coin. Without them there cannot be a thriving, prosperous Kosovo at ease with itself and with its neighbours, heading towards Europe”, Füle stated.
The European Commission and High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton are due to present their reports on the relations between Pristina and Belgrade and on Pristina's progress in reforms on 16 April. (CG/transl.fl)
