Brussels, 09/01/2013 (Agence Europe) - The policy debate among the College of Commissioners on Wednesday 9 January on alternative fuels confirmed support for a European strategy on this issue. The European Commissioner for Transport is therefore expected to be able to present the communication on this subject before the end of the month, accompanied by a directive on standards and infrastructure and an action plan. His colleagues gave their full support to the proposals being prepared, which could provide the necessary boost to developing the alternative fuels market (such as gas, electricity and biofuels), creating around 700,000 jobs in Europe by 2025, according to the European Commission spokesperson, Pia Ahrenkilde. Commissioners are also keen on the idea of setting out quantifiable binding targets on the number of electric charging points to be installed in Europe. (MD/trans/fl)
