06/12/2012 (Agence Europe) - Automobiles, EU to introduce import tax on Brazil. The EU expressed its increasing concern to the WTO negotiating committee on goods at the end of November. Its concerns involve Brazil's application of an import tax on industrial products to protect its national car sector. According to the EU, the amount of tax paid depends on the proportion of parts and components manufactured in Brazil and aims to help national manufacturers. Brazil explained that its Inovar Auto programme, which is due to expire at the end of December 2017, is simply aimed at encouraging technical innovation, meeting environmental standards and improving the quality of cars in Brazil.
