Brussels, 03/12/2012 (Agence Europe) - On Monday 3 December, the head of Eurogroup, Jean-Claude Juncker, asked his fellow eurozone finance ministers to find someone to replace him. He said that he had told his colleagues that he will be stepping down as head of Eurogroup at the end of 2012 or start of 2013 and they must pull out the stops to find a replacement. In July this year, at the end of his second term of office, Juncker agreed to stay on for six more months because France and Germany cannot agree on a successor, which is why they agreed to appoint the former governor of the Luxembourg central bank,Yves Mersch, to the ECB Executive Board. The idea of Eurogroup being shared between the French and German finance ministers has been mooted. On Monday, Juncker refused to repeat his wish, expressed in the summer, for German finance minister Wolfgang Schaüble to take his place. (MB/transl.fl)
