Brussels, 04/12/2012 (Agence Europe) - During his visit to Yerevan on Saturday 1 December, the president of the European Commission, José Manuel Barroso, welcomed the efforts made by Armenia to obtain a visa facilitation regime that would allow a certain Armenian nationals to travel more easily to the EU. Barroso explained that following “constructive and swift negotiations”, this visa facilitation agreement (which was already the subject of a preliminary agreement on 18 October last in Brussels) would officially be signed on 17 December. Barroso said that the signing of the readmission agreement by Armenia for its migrants illegally residing in the EU comes a bit late and pointed out that the aim of the two parties was to establish a visa waiver system in the long-term.
