Brussels, 28/11/2012 (Agence Europe) - Europol, United States Customs (ICE) and the police forces of several member states, including those of Belgium, Denmark, France, Romania and the United Kingdom, carried out a joint operation on 26 November in which 132 domain names were seized and internet sites blocked. These sites were selling counterfeit goods, states a press release from the US Mission to the EU. Three quarters of the sites blocked were hosted under the extension .com in the United States, where the operation was codenamed Cyber Monday 3, a reference to the “Cyber Monday” Thanksgiving holiday shopping season. In Europe, the operation, named Project Transatlantic, resulted in 31 sites with top-level domain (TLD) names, such as .eu, .be, .dk, .fr, .ro, and .uk, being seized. These sites were selling goods including luxury and computing products. (SP/transl.fl)
