Brussels, 26/11/2012 (Agence Europe) - On 26 November, the culture ministers took note of a progress report by the Presidency outlining the framework of European action in favour of European capitals of culture for the years 2020 to 2033. The European Commission is proposing to continue with the current general structure, but proposes changes in order to: (1) increase the number of selection criteria; (2) create a single European jury; (3) open up participation to candidate countries and potential candidates. According to the Cypriot Presidency, the delegations are in favour of the structure proposed, but concerns subsist over a drop in member states' participation in the selection process. “I am certain that we will have an agreement in the next semester”, said Culture Commissioner Androulla Vassiliou.
