Further meeting in October, announces Ivica Dacic

Brussels, 22/10/2012 (Agence Europe) - Serbian Prime Minister Ivica Dacic has announced that the next meeting of Serbia/Kosovo dialogue between his Kosovar counterpart, Hashim Thaçi, and himself will take place in November, when the leaders of Serbia hold a national platform for this dialogue. The spokesperson to the EU high representative for foreign affairs, Catherine Ashton, has told EUROPE that she is unable to confirm the date at this stage. “We hope that the next meeting will take place in the next few weeks”, she added.

Following meetings on 19 October between Ashton and the two prime ministers (EUROPE 10714), Dacic said: “we are prepared to discuss with representatives of the Union, we are prepared to discuss with representatives of the provisional institutions of Kosovo. The only thing we are insisting on is that there should be no secret negotiations”. The prime minister stressed that Serbia believes that the time has come to “conclude an historic agreement” with Pristina, stressing that he is prepared to discuss the final status of Kosovo whilst stipulating that the dialogue does not aim to recognise its unilateral independence. “The dialogue will cover all subjects - from the implementation of the agreements concluded so far to the questions of telecommunications and energy, via political issues”, he added.
