Brussels, 17/10/2012 (Agence Europe) - On Tuesday, government spokesman, Stefanos Stefanou, said that Cypriot political parties had reached a “broad agreement” on the countermeasures advocated by the troika (European Commission, IMF and the ECB) as part of the financial bailout plan launched by Cyprus last June. The Cypriot authorities know the timing is against them and according to one source, the different parties are hoping to reach consensus on this package so that they can send it to the troika around 22 October. The objective is to reach a final agreement for Eurogroup by 12 November. The terms of the memorandum on which Cyprus and donors have agreed are expected to be included in the 2013 Cypriot budget. Our same source indicated that there had not been any pressure exerted by the troika at all and that there had not yet been any reaction to the informal measures that had already been sent to Brussels by the government. Discussions are expected to resume on Wednesday in Nicosia. (EL/transl.fl)
