17/10/2012 (Agence Europe) - Tolerance prize award to two Balkan politicians. On Tuesday 16 October, the president of Croatia, Ivo Josipovic, and the former Serbian president, Boris Tadic, received the European Medal of Tolerance. The president of the European Parliament, Martin Schulz, paid homage to “two extraordinary men for their selfless and devoted work on reconciliation in South-east Europe”. He added that the award of this prize “is a sign that overcoming the deepest divisions can and must be done even in the hardest of circumstances”. He said that the atrocities of the bloody war in the former Yugoslavia should never be forgotten. The European Council for Tolerance and Reconciliation (ECTR) was responsible for creating this prize and welcomed the, “honesty and moral courage” of these two leaders. (CG/trans.fl)
