07/09/2012 (Agence Europe) - Recognition of Kosovo. In the opinion of European Parliament rapporteur Ulrike Lunacek (Greens/EFE), Serbia will not be able to join the EU without normalising its relations with Kosovo and without, at the end of negotiations, there being “a sort of recognition between the two countries to avoid a second Cyprus”. On 7 September the MEP called for the resumption of dialogue between Pristina and Belgrade. “There is a window of opportunity open with the new (Serbian) government. It is important to move from words to action. It is possible to progress and I hope that the dialogue will resume as soon as possible”, she said, asking for the agreements that have already been made to be put in place. Lunacek called on the EU to support Kosovo “at the political level” and asked the five member states (Spain, Greece, Cyprus, Slovakia and Romania) which have not recognised Kosovo's independence to do so. Kosovo will gain its full sovereignty on Monday 10 September. (CG/transl.fl)
