Relatively short flight times, attractive package holidays and favourable exchange rates are the factors which encourage British tourists to spend their summer holidays in Spain - particularly in the region of Catalonia, Madrid and Valencia. Their spending in the region is also higher than last year, with an average of €114 spent per person per day. Spain is also, more generally, one of the most visited countries by the British, according to the Spanish Institute of Tourism Studies, which points out a significant increase in British tourist trips between January and May. Travellers are taking advantage of price reductions by luxury hotels and attractive all-inclusive packages, in spite of the increase in certain taxes imposed by the Spanish government, as part of the recently adopted economic austerity measures.
