28/08/2012 (Agence Europe) - Formal proposals on new EU/Kirabati agreement. On Monday 27 August, the European Commission adopted proposals on the new three-year fisheries agreement between the EU and the Republic of Kirabati (see details in EUROPE 10627). The fishing possibilities (tuna), set out in the protocol, are broken down as follows between member states: purse seiners: Spain 3, France 1; - longliners: Spain 3, Portugal 3. The new protocol provides for a total financial counterparty of €1.325 million annually (€975,000 for access to the exclusive economic zone, the EEZ, of Kirabati; and €350,000 to support Kirabati fisheries policy). The new protocol will replace the current protocol which is due to expire on 16 September 2012. (LC/transl.jl)
