ECONOMY - FINANCE - BUSINESS / (ae) competition

02/07/2012 (Agence Europe) - Mergers: Saria-Danish Crown/Daka. On 29 June, the European Commission cleared the proposed acquisition of joint control over the newly created company Daka Denmark A/S (animal by-products) by SARIA Bio-Industries AG & Co. KG of Germany (destruction or recycling and management of animal, vegetable and agricultural by-products) and Danish Crown A/S of Denmark (slaughtering of pigs and cattle, meat processing and meat trading). Daka Denmark will take over the business activity of the Danish cooperative Daka a.m.b.a. The Commission particularly investigated the vertical links between Danish Crown, the biggest Danish abattoir, and the activities of the parties downstream in the supply of animal by-products and their processing, and concluded that the proposed transaction would not significantly alter the structure of the markets concerned and that the merged entity would continue to face competition from a number of players.
